In response to a kind invitation from the Bulgarian National Centre for Underwater Archaeology (CUA), Nada Kamel, MA student in CMAUCH has attended a seminar on ‘’Establishment of a Regional Network for Cooperating and Capacity Building in the Field of Underwater Archaeology”, that was held at CUA from the 23rd to the 31st of October 2021. The seminar took place in Sozopol, ancient Apollonia Pontica, on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
The seminar aimed to establish a network of organizations from the Black Sea and Mediterranean region, that are working in the field of maritime and underwater cultural heritage. Beside Egypt, the seminar included representatives of Tunisia, Greece, Croatia, Montenegro, and Macedonia.
During the seminar, Nada gave a presentation about maritime archaeology in Egypt, its history, development, challenges, and the institutions involved. The seminar included introductory courses on underwater photogrammetry, aerial bathymetric photogrammetry, and marine geophysics. We are hoping that this initiative would be the first step in continuous cooperation between the CMAUCH and CUA.
