During the period from 12th to the 31st of October 2021, Mohamed Khedr Senior Researcher, at Alexandria Centre for Maritime Archaeology was a member of the team of Santo Hieronimo Shipwreck Excavation โ€“ Croatia. Mohamedโ€™s participation was kindly supported by the Honor Frost Foundation

The ship was originally owned by Jerolim Benedikt Primoeviฤ‡ from the Maritime Republic of Ragusa (Dubrovnik, Croatia). It sank in 1576 at a depth of 32m-38m at the entrance of the bay of the island of ล ipan.

The systematic excavation of the shipwreck started in 2014; the project aims to examine the shipbuilding tradition, technology, and construction of post-medieval vessels that sailed the Adriatic Sea. It also aims to identify the design transfers between Adriatic, Mediterranean, and Atlantic Ocean medieval ships.

The main objectives for this season were to excavate new parts of the shipwreck using the water dredges and to carry out detailed documentation for the excavated sections.
