On the 23rd of April 2019 the first meeting on implementing the UNESCO 2001 Convention on the protection of the Underwater cultural heritage in Egypt, was held at the headquarters of the UNESCO National Committee in Cairo.
The meeting included representatives of the main partners and stakeholders involved in the implementation of the Convention such as the National Commission for UNESCO, the UNESCO Cairo Office, the Ministry of Antiquities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Navy, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Higher Education in addition to the Alexandria Centre for Maritime Archaeology & Underwater Cultural Heritage as the only academic and research centre in that field.
During the meeting, the participants presented their points of view on the implementation of the UNESCO Convention and decided to organize a workshop on Underwater Cultural Heritage for different stakeholders to be run by the Centre for Maritime Archaeology & Underwater Cultural Heritage.
